Anti-Oppression Series: Somatics and Social Justice: Embodied Critical Consciousness as a Foundation of Healing with Hala Khouri, M.A., SEP, E-RYT
Critical consciousness is our awareness of ourselves and others within the larger socio- political context. From a trauma perspective, this awareness includes the understanding that systemic oppression and structural violence are traumatic and disproportionately impact certain people and groups. These individuals and groups are also incredibly resilient and have had to figure out how to survive with less.
Social justice is something that occurs not only on a policy level, but in relationship. Cultivating the tools to connect and communicate across difference can allow us to heal together and collaborate in transforming our world into one where everyone is valued equally and has access to what they need to thrive. Trauma healing work can be part of social justice when it is critical.
During this workshop we will reflect on our own critical consciousness and learn tools for connecting across difference in a healthy and authentic way. Without critical consciousness we are likely to reproduce harmful dynamics in our healing spaces. For practitioners this is a vital part of holding space for clients with a different lived experience from you.
We strongly encourage donations to support our BIPOC Scholarship Fund, however no one will be turned away from this important workshop due to being unable to make a financial contribution. Learn more about the BIPOC Scholarship Fund here: https://traumahealing.harnessapp.com/wv2/campaign/1443
